On 26 March, 1994 this Association was formally
formed. During 1993 and 1994 a lot was done to formalize the structures
of the Association on a National and Provincial level. The formalization
of course structures and -material, as well as the administrative
processes received attention.
At the AGM meeting in 1997, it was decided to model the SAKF coaching courses on
IKF courses and
that the SAKF would in future make use of international coaches to
present courses in South Africa, until such a time as the Association
had qualified coaches of its own to present these courses.
From 1996 various coaches from the Netherlands and Belgium have presented
courses, workshops, clinics and academies in South Africa. These coaches
have brought invaluable experience to the South African coaches and
made a significant contribution to the coaching and playing standards
in South Africa. Our own national coaches also have, on various occasions,
requested the attenance of some of the best international coaches in
the world, at the training camps of the respective national selections. These coaches had a major influence
on the preparation of these teams as well as on the eventual results
of the tournaments where these teams competed.
In 1999 the structure of this association was again changed to make
provision for the implementation of Coaches Associations through to
club level as well as the appointment of regional coaches and technical
advisors at club level. The aim of these advisors are to support the
national coaches with their efforts with the national selections as
well as to try and improve the standard of coaching on all levels.
In 2002, the IKF granted the South African Coaches Association the
go ahead to present IKF courses using
their own coaches. The first IKF Level 2 Coaching course was presented in 2002, to seven candidates.
